Is custom jewelry expensive?

Nope! Custom jewelry just means that you get exactly what you want, without paying for extras that you don’t want. At Scott’s, we guide you on gemstone options, reuse stones from old jewelry you no longer wear (or have inherited) and even let you recycle old gold jewelry towards the cost of your new custom piece. All ways to reduce your cost!

Can I reuse my diamond in a new piece of jewelry?

That’s exactly why we started Scott’s Custom Jewelers! Reusing and recycling old jewelry is not only sustainable, but also allows you to keep the memories. And isn’t that exactly why we give jewelry as gifts – to celebrate a milestone!

With our CAD technology, we can make the new piece of custom jewelry to fit your own gemstones perfectly. Plus, you can see a 3D model of the piece BEFORE we cast it into gold or platinum, and make sure you love it.

How do I design and get jewelry made?

The first step is to meet with someone like us, who specializes in designing jewelry 🙂

Then we’ll look at what your goals are for your new piece and give you an estimate on what it will cost.

Finally, we’ll start designing! We will send you pictures of the jewelry and make a 3D printed model for you to try on. This way you’ll be able to make any changes before it’s casted into metal here in our Dublin, Ohio store.

Is custom jewelry worth it?

Since custom jewelry is not mass-produced, you’re not paying for features that you don’t want, which will ultimately save you money.

You also get a one-of-a-kind piece, tailor made for you, which means more value for your money. Plus, you won’t look like everyone else either.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?

Absolutely! Lab diamonds are chemically, optically and physically the same as mined diamonds (that’s been validated by The Federal Trade Commission, btw).

Man-made diamonds are a sustainable and conflict free option, and generally cost 80-90% less than natural diamonds. Plus each lab diamond is unique, just like diamonds mined from the earth.

Can a jeweler tell if a diamond is man-made?

Nope – and don’t let anyone tell you that they can.

Without a very expensive piece of machinery, jewelers will not be able to tell a lab diamond from a mined diamond. Synthetic diamonds are rated with the same 4Cs as mined diamonds – cut, carat, color and clarity, and most larger lab diamonds will have a certificate that specs out all the details, along with a laser-etched number of the edge of the stone. And each lab diamond looks different and has unique characteristics, just like mined diamonds.

Lab Grown Diamonds

Lab grown diamonds offer a beautiful, affordable option for any piece of jewelry.

Exactly like diamonds mined from the earth physically, optically and chemically, lab diamonds are also eco-friendly and conflict-free. An added bonus is that they cost 80-90% less than mined diamonds!

Think of lab diamonds like a tomato. You can grow them in the garden or in a hot house. Both are the same, but garden tomatoes are hit or miss sometimes, depending upon all kinds of variables. Hot house tomatoes generally cost less and are consistently better quality. But both are tomatoes.

Same with diamonds. There are a lot of expenses involved with mining diamonds from the earth, not to mention the environmental and human impacts. And miners aren’t guaranteed a good “crop” of mined diamonds. Therefore, the price is higher. Quality labs, on the other hand, can make a consistent diamond crystal that can be cut into beautiful gems every time. The companies that we get our lab diamonds from use solar power and pay livable wages, and still can offer a gorgeous diamond at very affordable prices!

When you purchase jewelry from Scott’s Custom Jewelers, you can be assured that the gold, platinum, silver, diamonds, and other gemstones, are from only conflict-free sources. As a fourth generation, 97-year-old family jewelry store, our dedication to integrity is a core value of how we do business.

In fact, we’ve never had to buy newly mined gold to melt when we make our jewelry. We only use purified, recycled gold in our casting process.

With the recent invasion of Ukraine by Russian president Vladimir Putin, The United States issued an executive order restricting the import of all Russian diamonds into the US on March 11. 2022.

Therefore, we have made the decision to only offer lab grown and mined diamonds that are not produced in Russia at this time, and therefore avoid any conflicts or sources of income to Russia.

Design

We start every jewelry design appointment with a conversation, pictures and a pencil. It’s the best way to find out what you like, what you want and how much your custom jewelry will cost. We can meet in person, or even virtually, if you prefer.

Create

After our free consultation, we will send you pictures of your new jewelry using our special CAD (computer aided design) technology. Then, we make an exact replica of your new custom design with our 3D printers so you can see it and even try it on! And you can still make changes, too – at no extra charge.

Deliver

When you’ve approved the 3D model, we’ll get to work creating your new, custom jewelry! Even with all of our high tech toys, our goldsmith still finishes each piece by hand, here in our Columbus area store.
