5 Engagement Ring Styles & Settings Trending In 2024

We’ve made a ton of engagement rings over the past 23 years here in our Columbus, Ohio, jewelry store. So, when it comes to trending engagement ring styles, we’ve seen it all.

In fact, we can actually tell when you got married just by looking at your engagement ring style!

  • One-carat princess cut diamond in a 14k white gold, vintage designer mounting? Married in the 2000s.
  • Diamond halo engagement ring? That would be the 2010s.
  • How about a marquise-shaped diamond with a matching 14k yellow gold guard filled with baguette-shaped gems? That’s the 80s, baby!

But the trends for 2024 are all about uniqueness. Bezels, skewed settings, horizontally set stones, custom designs, and lab-grown diamonds (set in 14k yellow gold mountings) are some of the top new engagement ring styles we’re seeing now.

5 Popular Engagement Ring Styles In 2024

So, what’s got couples buzzing in 2024? Here’s what’s hot right now.

1. Bezel Engagement Ring Settings: All The Rage

Bold and modern, the bezel setting is making headlines in engagement ring styles for 2024. A bezel is kind of like a gold “donut” that holds the diamond.

This is an excellent option for people who wear gloves for work (they don’t have prongs that tend to snag), and it also acts like a frame, showcasing the center diamond.

There are several options with a bezel-style mounting. A full or half bezel works well and gives even more style options. Plus, a bezel in 14k white gold can make a smaller diamond look more prominent.

2. Pear And Emerald Shaped Diamonds: The New “It-Girl”

Long and lean, the fancy-shaped pear and emerald cuts are taking center stage for engagement rings.

The pear diamond ring shape is beloved for many reasons. The feminine curves, the brilliant sparkle, and the sexy pointed end—all of these combine to make this a favorite. And they lend themselves to some fun, custom wedding bands later on.

And the emerald cut is another shape that looks amazing on everyone. The elongated lines look flattering on both short and long fingers. Plus, they always look bigger than their carat weight—and that’s a good thing in Diamond Land!

3. Skewed Engagement Ring Settings: They’re On Everyone’s Pinterest Page

Skewed or Akimbo-style engagement rings are seeing a lot of love lately. Whimsical, free-flowing, skewed styles often combine different shaped or even colored diamonds and gemstones. Some rings have modern twists like leaves, vines, or flowers.

They are probably the most unique engagement ring style because no two versions are the same.

This style of custom engagement ring often doesn’t have a separate wedding ring. You may just decide to add more stones to the band right before the ceremony or create a custom band that is welded onto the ring later.

4. Diamonds Set Horizontally: Wildly Popular Styles

Long diamonds set horizontally—often combined with bezel-style tops—are showstoppers. Bold and modern looking, this minimalistic look often combines a large sideways-set stone in a wide, cigar-style band.

5. One-Of-A-Kind Custom Engagement Rings: Our Forever Favorites

Our favorite style of engagement ring is the custom, one-of-a-kind ring.

Many times, we are using family diamonds in the design. Or maybe we’ll use a specific number of gemstones to represent a lucky number (The Taylor Swift 13 effect, anyone?) or the number of years the couple has been together. With our CAD (computer-aided design) technology and 3D printers, we can easily bring those unique engagement ring styles to life before the actual ring is even made.

Lab-Grown Diamond Engagement Rings: Growing In Popularity

We couldn’t end the trends without mentioning the growing popularity of lab-grown diamonds. Physically, optically, and chemically the same as diamonds mined from the earth, lab-grown diamonds are an ethical and conflict-free option for custom engagement rings.

But that’s not even the best part—lab-grown diamond engagement rings cost about 70-90% less than mined diamonds! Plus, they’re available in almost every size and cut so that you can use them in wedding bands as well.

Engagement Ring Styles: Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between ring styles and settings?

Ring styles refer to the overall look and feel of the engagement ring, including its design era (e.g., classic, modern, vintage), while settings describe how the stone is mounted onto the ring.

Modern rings vs. classic rings: what’s the difference?

Modern rings often feature bold, innovative designs with clean lines and contemporary settings, such as tension or bezel settings. On the other hand, classic rings lean towards timeless designs like solitaire or cathedral settings.

How do you choose an engagement ring style?

Choosing an engagement ring style involves considering the wearer’s personal taste, lifestyle, and the symbolism you want the ring to convey. Think about their fashion sense, daily activities, and any preferences they’ve expressed.

Can you mix and match engagement ring styles with wedding bands?

Absolutely! Mixing and matching ring styles and metals can create a unique and personalized look. Consider the width, style, and metal of both rings to ensure they complement each other.

Can you customize an engagement ring?

Yes—customizing an engagement ring involves selecting a specific diamond cut, choosing a unique setting, or incorporating personal elements into the design, such as engraving or using heirloom gemstones.
